Shyam Meera Singh's lawyer assured the court that he would remove his tweet, the High Court told the petitioner that if Shyam Meera's tweet was not deleted then he could come to the court.
A day after the Delhi High Court issued a notice against YouTuber Shyam Meera Singh on a plea filed by Gurmeet Ram Rahim, it asked the former to take down the video on Dera Sacha Sauda chief. Gurmeet had earlier filed a defamation case against the YouTuber in the matter.
During the hearing on December 30, the court observed that the uploaded video was not appropriate and must be taken down. To this, the YouTuber’s lawyer raised a question on Ram Rahim’s contempt petition and also asked how he could file a petition in court while in jail when no permission was taken from the jail authority.
‘Violation of freedom of speech’
Further arguing in the matter, Shyam Meera Singh’s lawyer pointed out that if the video is released it would be a violation of her client’s freedom of speech. To this, the court argued that Shyam Meera Singh being a journalist must understand the seriousness of the matter.
After being reassured that the alleged video would be removed from his tweet, the court then asked the petitioner to come to the court in case the video is not deleted. It also asked Ram Rahim to make Google a party in the case and also directed all parties to file a detailed reply in the matter.

Video uploaded on December 17
As per reports, a video was uploaded by the YouTuber on December 17 under the title “How did Gurmeet Ram Rahim fool his devotees?”. After this Ram Rahim sent a legal notice to Shyam Meera Singh. The latter however refused to remove the video.
Notably, in 2017, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was sentenced to 20 years in jail after he was convicted of raping two of his disciples. He was also sentenced to life imprisonment for being involved in the 2002 murder of Journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati and of Dera Manager Ranjit Singh.
